Sharks and Shrimps May 30, 2011

MARTINI MONDAY – (enjoy the first evening of the
week with a cool cocktail and a easy snack!)

I was recently in Florida at Crabby Bill’s restaurant with some old and new friends  – Hi Smart Asses!!! And we had delicious crab legs with Land Shark beers. It was a night to remember. Thank you I  hope to see you again.

Land Shark Lager, brewed in Jacksonville Florida, is a 4.7% pale lager launched in 2006 as the house lager for Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant chain. Under a sponsorship deal, Dolphin Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and the Miami Hurricanes was renamed “Land Shark Stadium” for the 2009 football season. The contract ended in early 2010, and the stadium has since been renamed “Sun Life Stadium” as of January 18, 2010 in time for both the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIV.


  • 1 pound of frozen shrimp
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1 to 2 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomato
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup snipped fresh cilantro
  • 2 avocados, seeded, peeled, and chopped
  • Lime wedges (optional)
  • Purple flowering kale (optional)Thaw shrimp, if frozen. Peel and devein shrimp. Cook shrimp in a large amount of boiling water for 1 to 2 minutes or until shrimp are opaque, stirring occasionally. Drain; rinse under cold running water.

    In a large bowl, stir together ketchup, lime juice, and hot pepper sauce. Add shrimp, tomato, onion, and cilantro; toss to coat. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours.

    Just before serving, add avocados; toss to coat. If desired, garnish with lime wedges and flowering kale. Makes 8 appetizer servings.
