SUNDAY’s Sampler Platter – (imagine that).
As I mentioned about a month ago, I’m starting down my experience quest. Again my version of an Eat, Pray, Love path. One of the things on my list is the prayer portion. I’ve chosen 25 places of worship to visit in the surrounding area. I met some wonderful people last night who shared the teachings of their guru Louix Dor Dempriey. A lovely couple, Rich and Laurie, both spent time in ashrams in India. They host a satsang once a month for anyone that would like to share in their home. What is a satsang?
Satsang (Sanskrit sat = true, sanga = company) is in Indian philosphy that involves (1) the company of the “highest truth,” (2) the company of a guru, or (3) company with an assembly of persons who listen to, talk about, and assimilate the truth. This typically involves listening to or reading scriptures, reflecting on, discussing and assimilating their meaning, meditating on the source of these words, and bringing their meaning into one’s daily life. Contemporary spiritual teachers in the West frequently come from the East but can come from any part of the world.
We prayed, meditated and viewed a DVD of the guru from his New Year’s Eve message to his beloved’s. It was interesting that this was my first step and the first message I’ve received is to seek love and my own teacher. Louix was not saying he was the teacher, just that each person has their own teacher.
Since I don’t know very about Indian philosphy, looks like it’s reading time! Here is a little tidbit about Louix Dor Dempriev. Thanks Rich, Laurie, Conrad and Mark. It was great meeting you and I look forward to another satsang.
