Uses for a Candy Cane December 6, 2010

MARTINI MONDAY – (enjoy the first evening of the week with a cool cocktail and a easy snack!)

You know to hang them on your tree. You can stick them on a present. Santa always used to give me one when I visited him in the little shack at the park.  Today’s blog has a drink recipe and a way of using the same ingredient, candy canes. How about a couple more ideas?

Hiccups are a bit of a phenomenon in the medical world. Though many times the hiccups occur because of stomach issues, there are multiple factors that may cause hiccups. However, there are a number of ways to cure hiccups to give you relief from this particularly pesky, yet usually minor malady.

Suck on a candy cane. Because licking a candy cane takes a bit of concentration, it distracts you from the hiccups. In addition, peppermint is excellent for calming stomach muscles, which could be a contributing factor to your hiccups. If you don’t have candy canes on hand, anything with real peppermint oil is said to be an excellent substitute for curing hiccups.

  • Chop up candy canes and sprinkle them on an ice cream sundae.
  • Stir your hot cocoa with them.
  • Add crushed candy canes to brownies, cookie batter, or rice krispy treats. The canes add a unique flavor and crunch and also make a colorful cookie.

Here’s a video on how to make a delicious candy cane drinkie poo.

Oh dear, Beth – when I first opened this post I didn’t have my glasses on and I thought the first picture was of a person cleaning their ear with a candy cane (like a Q-tip). Thankfully, I was mistaken!
