Oktflorifest! October 2, 2010

Filed under: Cool party idears — celebrationgoddess @ 12:07 am

SO MUCH FUN SATURDAY – (the greatest day of the week!)

Having a going away party for a close friend tonight. And since it is October and there is lots of oom pah pah going around right now, I’m naming it Oktflorifest!

What do you possibly serve for Oktflorifest?

BRATS, COCONUT RICE, BLACK BEANS, BEER, and LOTS OF FUN Polka music!

My friend is moving to Florida near Miiiammi. I will miss her so much but this gives me an opportunity to go back to visit and possibly go to Calle Ocho: One week each March, Miami transforms itself into a traditional Latin street festival. Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) becomes the scene of Carnaval as over a million spectators gather to celebrate in the city’s largest annual party.

What goes on at Calle Ocho? What doesn’t! Well not much English. But we got along just fine.

The big party is one of Miami’s “don’t miss” events. If you’ve never been to El Festival de la Ocho, you owe it to yourself to attend! The festival closes off 24 blocks of SW 8th Street to host dancing, food, drink and 30 stages of live entertainment. This is one heck of a party! In 1988, the festival was the scene of a Guinness World Record, as 119,986 people joined in the world’s longest conga line!

We had the best time dining on Cuban foods, dancing in the streets and even hitching a motorcycle ride with some sweet Latin guys! Which totally freaked out our hostess.

Hey ya gotta live for the moment, savor the foods of the world and always dance your little booty off.

Laugh, learn and liven up your taste buds!
